Advanced- "Vocabulary B" Introduction
Welcome to the Vocabulary Program 3! In this program, we will dive into the last set of topics that I regularly discuss with children. If you’re viewing this program, it means that you have already completed Vocabulary 1 and Vocabulary 2, which I strongly recommend. These initial steps are crucial as they lay the foundation for all the subsequent vocabulary lessons. It's essential to first teach the basic strategies and systems, as this makes it much easier for children to absorb new vocabulary in a meaningful way.
I believe the progression from Vocabulary 1 to Vocabulary 2 to Vocabulary 3 is important for a well-rounded understanding of the world around them. However, the choice is yours – I strongly recommend following this sequence for optimal learning, as it will allow children to build upon what they’ve already learned and connect new vocabulary with their existing knowledge.
This program will cover nine new topics, each focusing on words and concepts that children encounter regularly in their environment. You will have access to ideas, pictures, and lists of names of things, but please feel free to adapt these materials to suit your own environment. For example, if you have a lot more kitchen tools than I do because you're a chef, or if you're more familiar with tools in a garage setting, then use those items as teaching opportunities. Children need to learn about the world around them, and it’s perfectly fine to teach them about your specific area of expertise.
In this program, you will also see how to incorporate topics that may be outside of your usual knowledge or comfort zone. For instance, I will show you how to approach things that I’m not particularly familiar with, and it’s fascinating and fun for the children. It’s all about discovering talents and preferences. You’ll gain insight into what the child likes and what interests them, not just from your perspective but from theirs too. Does the child have an interest in musical instruments? Do they want to learn more about them? Observe and see how I encourage those interests in a fun, engaging way.
This program also emphasizes the importance of incorporating your own preferences into the learning process. Do you enjoy watching sports? Why not teach a child about sports in a way that is fun and appropriate for their level? By using fun activities, pictures, and descriptions, you can help children connect with the things you love, while also fostering their own ability to describe these concepts and choose what interests them.
As you progress, you’ll see how to teach children about these topics, from familiar to unfamiliar, in ways that are engaging and accessible. I will guide you on how to introduce academic skills such as shapes, colors, and numbers, which are often taught in school. If you’ve started with my earlier programs, you’ll know that I eventually address these academic concepts in more detail. However, don’t feel the need to rush into these. This program is just a starting point, and if you’re eager to delve deeper into how to talk about shapes, colors, and numbers in more interactive ways, I have additional resources available on this website for you.
I'm excited to welcome you to this program and to continue helping you teach children valuable vocabulary and concepts that they will use every day. Let's work together to make learning enjoyable and impactful!
