Advanced Calendar

"My first planner"

This program is designed to help children gain control over their time and reduce anxiety, unwanted behaviors, and difficulties with transitions. By giving children the ability to manage their own schedules, this program aims to alleviate constant questioning about when things will happen and how many days are left until an event.

This program is an extension of the Beginners Calendar Program, offering a more advanced approach for children who are nearing the final steps of learning how to manage their own personalized wall calendar.

Program Benefits:

  1. Reduced Anxiety and Behavioral Challenges:
  • By empowering children with the ability to track their own time, this program helps decrease anxiety, unwanted behaviors, and difficulties transitioning between activities. Children will feel more in control and less reliant on adults to answer questions about when events will occur.
  1. Personalized Visual Support:
  • The program provides tangible visual supports that help children understand the days, months, and years, making it easier for them to remember details about their daily experiences, past events, and can predict upcoming activities.
  1. Fostering Independence and Self-Regulation:
  • As children become familiar with their personal planner, they develop the ability to independently answer questions about their life. This promotes self-regulation and reduces the need for constant reminders from adults.
  1. Practical Learning Tool:
  • "My Very First Planner" is created by following step-by-step instructions, with guidance from both a therapist and a parent. This hands-on process allows children to engage in the creation of their planner, reinforcing their understanding of time management and the concept of a structured day, week, month or even a year.

Listen to a confident child!

Children increase their expressive language after using their personal planner. They answer questions with complete sentences and are happy to share what they have experienced in their life with ease. Many of my students keep showing their planners to family members throughout the years.
